The Georgia Straight presents Big Sugar at the Commodore

Big Sugar frontman Gordie Johnson isn’t coming back to Canada after his 2003 departure empty-handed. In support of the band’s first new album in a decade, Revolution Per Minute, the reborn Texas soulman will be back on tour introducing us to Big Sugar's latest creation, rumored to deliver their most open and groovy sound yet.

Johnson states, “All we did was hit record and we totally captured Big Sugar live off the floor. This is the least messed with record I’ve ever made. Even when it came to mixing at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio, we just put it up on the desk and moved faders. It just didn’t need any help. We let it be what it is.”

Big Sugar play the Commodore Ballroom with guests Wide Mouth Mason on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are priced at $39.50 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale this Friday (June 24) at 10 a.m. but Straight readers can take advantage of our exclusive presale from Thursday (June 23) 10 a.m.–10 p.m. by going to Livenation and submitting our exclusive presale password widemouth.
