O.J. Simpson confesses to Oprah—not

The story zipped around the internets in late June: a producer for Oprah Winfrey's OWN network had squeezed a jailhouse confession out of the Juice. The recently retired queen of daytime TV would follow up with the interview of her life, in which O.J. Simpson would describe why and how he killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. "It was in self-defense," he'd say. Case closed! Oprah back on top!

But it was all untrue, as a rep for Oprah's production company Harpo swiftly told the Hollywood Reporter.

The story was originally published in Britain's Daily Mail, a tabloid that, curiously enough, is actually taken fairly seriously by supporters of David Cameron.

The tale originated in the National Enquirer, a tabloid that's taken fairly seriously by crazy people.

In case you've forgotten, Simpson was acquitted of the murders in 1995, but was ordered to pay over $33 million in damages to the Goldman family following a civil trial in '97.

Simpson's current stint at the Lovelock Correctional Centre, in Nevada-where it was claimed he made the confession-is over a bizarre caper in 2007 when he tried to retrieve some stolen memorabilia from a collector in Las Vegas.

Rumours that Simpson is set to pen a book about the Oprah non-affair called If I Did Confess to Oprah... remain, at this point, the sole product of this writer's imagination.

But for those of you who can't get enough of the bottomless, ugly, sleazy and totally depressing rabbit-hole that is O.J. Simpson (since the Daily Mail went and brought it all up again and the Enquirer has basically never stopped): you are directed to watch the following video.

O.J. Guilty but Not of Murder presents the kind of naggingly compelling alternative scenario that makes what you already think you know about a hopelessly compromised case - with its racist cops, blowhard Hollywood lawyers, mob connections, wife-beaters, and possible drug-hits - even murkier still.

the Daily Mail is not a serious newspaper, it's very much a comic book like the enquirer. It does contain many avid conservative supporters but on the basis of racism and hatred for working class people only. Most readers are BNP/UKIP supporters... i think it was Oscar Wilde who said "I like reading the daily mail, it's better than a newspaper" or something along those lines.

the daily mail is notorious for hiring private investigators to break into murder victims voicemails and emails to get juicy rape details and publishing anything they want, then retracting in a small print box the next issue.

if you combined the New York Post, Le Journal de Montreal, and Mcleans magazine into one super tabloid you wouldn't even scratch the depths of depravity and fiction that is the Daily Mail in the Uk
