NPA's Suzanne Anton calls for on-air discussion with Mayor Gregor Robertson on riot planning

Comments

Coun.Suzanne Anton is challenging Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson to participate in an on-air discussion about planning for the Stanley Cup finals fan zones.

“The Mayor has been reluctant to answer any of the tough questions regarding his role in the lead up to and during the June 15th riot,” the Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate said in a news release today (July 5). “I’m prepared to clear my schedule and have a respectful and meaningful discussion as soon as possible. We need to be able to restore the public’s confidence that City Hall can safely play host to major public gatherings once again.”

Anton says the internal reviews announced by city hall after the Stanley Cup riot aren't independent, don't allow for public input, and weren't properly debated at council.

Won't happen. Gregor's a chicken
A debate would be Gregor's worst nightmare. We're talking about a guy who only shows up for cameras when he knows there are no microphones in sight. He's scared to answer the tough questions because he knows he's not smart enough to handle real questions that aren't about gardens, bike lanes, wheat growing, or chicken coops.

Call an election already! We need a real mayor!
I stopped paying attention to anything Gregor has to say back when he started destroying our downtown core with his poorly planned bike lanes. Gregor has created a monumental task for the next mayor to be. I don't know how this guy can still give that stupid grin for the cameras when, in reality, literally everything he has done as mayor will need to be undone. He has cost us so much money... and you can now add the riot costs to that list of mishaps.

I used to have a lot of respect for Coun. Anton, but lately she'll say anything to get some attention. Remember when she had articulate opinions on city issues? Remember when she would vote for smart Vision ideas instead of just disagreeing against everything on principle? She's really lost her way since her Hornby bike lane vote flip-flop.

Weren't there already 100s of thousands of people downtown for Canada Day weekend? Anton, go away.

To the 2nd poster above, how have the bike lanes "destroyed" our downtown core? How has Robertson cost us money? Stop talking crap you have no facts to back up. Don't be an Anton-like moron and think that the riot would not have happened if it was a different mayor. The riot would have happened no matter who was Mayor.

Get Real
On the morning of the riot, Anton was having a press conference with a pitch fork and overalls to talk about front yard wheat. If she had concerns about the planning for the fan zones, this would have been the time to bring them up. So, she was totally clueless. Definitely not leadership material.

Getting Robertson to do anything in accordance with the checks and balances in place - including owning up to his decision-making in a public forum, is next to impossible.

The idiot's the worst mayor this city has ever had.

Save Vancouver
Robertson is a very poor speaker, so it would be interesting to see how he fared agianst a former QC like Anton. He may be able to run now, but come November he won`t be able to hide from a debate.
