Wednesdays get wackier at the Astoria

Between helping to organize Music Waste and performing as demented dubstepper Babe Rainbow, Cam Reed’s a busy enough guy as it is, but the local musician is looking to fill his last few empty days with a new dance night at the Astoria. Titled “You Could Do Worse Wednesdays”, the night aims to appeal to summer partiers refusing to adhere to the weekend-warrior lifestyle.

“Not everyone’s partying just on the weekend,” Reed told the Straight. “People are going to the beach midweek and looking for something to do. I thought it would be fun to have a place for people to go and have a couple cheap drinks.”

The biweekly event, which started in late July, doesn’t carry a specific genre tag. From punk to rock to hip-hop, as long as the track keeps the floor moving, Reed will play it. “Anything you can dance to,” he said of his hit list. “We’ll play some fun punk songs and rock songs. Obviously, I have an affinity for rap, so we’ll play a lot of that as well.”

What you won’t be hearing are Reed’s own chopped-and-screwed electro-nightmares. “It’s certainly not going to be as dark,” he said of the night.
