Stage collapse leaves three dead at Belgium festival

In case it hasn’t already been made clear this summer, rock festivals are, increasingly, dangerous to one’s health. And we’re not talking about things like sunstroke or brown acid in the Kool-Aid.

A sudden storm, complete with high winds, caused a stage to collapse earlier today at Belgium’s Pukkelpop Festival. Three people died and over 40 others were seriously injured at the event, which featured such top talent as Eminem, the Foo Fighters, the Kills, and the Offspring. An estimated 60,000 fans were at the yearly festival, which takes place near the city of Hasselt. All were evacuated after the tragedy.

The incident comes on the heels of another stage collapsing in Indiana prior to an August 14 appearance by the band Sugarland, that accident killing five people. Earlier this summer, Cheap Trick, and their fans, escaped injury when a stage was destroyed by high winds in Ottawa.
