YouTube renting films in Canada

YouTube begins renting movies in Canada today, going up against Netflix and iTunes in its bid for the Great White North market share. Canadian users in general have been underwhelmed by the slim selection on Netflix, due to thorny licensing issues that may or may not be resolved by YouTube’s owner, Google.

YouTube has, however, hooked up with Canadian studios eOne, Mongrel Media, and Alliance Film, so you’ll get plenty of CanCon for your $4.99 per movie. Netflix, by contrast, charges a flat fee of $8/month. Here’s the link if you wanna check out YouTube’s catalogue. Personally, I’m impressed that there isn’t one but two Al Adamson flicks available in the free category—The Naughty Stewardesses, and the utterly crazed Cinderella 2000.
