Occupy Wall Street Day 14: More unions join fight, protesters to march on NYPD headquarters, will Radiohead show up?

As Occupy Wall Street heads into Day 14, the big rumour today is that Radiohead will be performing a show at Liberty Plaza at 4 p.m. EST. Like all good Internet rumours, it's just a rumour. But you can be sure that #Radiohead is going to trend on Twitter all day.

If the band doesn't end up leaving frothing protesters high and dry (groan), chances are that you'll be able to watch it via the Occupy Wall Street livestream below.

In a posting today (September 30), Occupy Wall Street wrote about the mainstream media only taking notice of the occupation after a few police officers dealt with protesters in an overly aggressive fashion on September 24. However, they pointed out that "when approached as individuals, members of the NYPD have expressed solidarity with our cause." Around 5:30 p.m. tonight, protesters will march on NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza. Provided everyone's not lining up trying to touch Thom Yorke.

A number of unions, including the 38,000 member TWU Local 100 and SEIU 32BJ (which includes doormen, security guards, and maintenance workers), are planning protests and marches in October in a show of solidarity with Liberty Plaza's general assembly. SEUI 1199 and the postal workers' union are considering joining the protest, while the United Federation of Teachers may also join in. Cenk Uygur from the Young Turks has the latest info in the video below.

The Village Voice is reporting that Critical Mass will also be joining the protest. Hmm, today is the last Friday of the month. Watch out for bicycles on your commute home tonight. And cyclists? Watch out for Mike Usinger.

The Nation has assembled a comprehensive FAQ about the action.

Matt Stoller has written a piece about how the Occupy Wall Street action is actually a church of dissent, not a protest.
