Laughing Stock Vineyards and Top Table Restaurants launch Directors’ Blends

Here are a couple of new blends from a joint venture between Laughing Stock Vineyards and the four Top Table Restaurants—West, CinCin, Blue Water here in town, and Araxi in Whistler. There’s one each, white and red, and called Directors’ Blends after the four wine directors of each restaurant. And that’s the only place they’re available and only till supplies run out, in which case, they’ll get to work on another batch (or so I’m told). The 2010 white is 50 percent Pinot Gris, 20 percent Viognier, 15 percent Pinot Blanc, and 15 percent Sauvignon Blanc. The red is 40 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 percent Merlot, 15 percent Syrah, and 10 percent Cabernet Franc. Of the two I like the white best: fresh, lively, and bright and definitely, as one of the directors put it, “built for food”. Neither wine is cheap—they go for upwards of $50—but they’re well-built lunch-and-dinner wines both—and any one of the four WDs can tell you plenty more when they pour some in your glass. Apparently the newly minted winemaking quartet is already pumped for the next vintage they’ll get to play with.
