Krista Engelland: I have a vision and plan for Delta’s long-term livability

I am Krista Engelland and I would like to be Delta’s next mayor. As a lifelong resident, a small business owner, and a municipal councillor in Delta for 15 years, I have the experience and the knowledge to lead the municipality forward in a new and positive direction.

While on Delta council I was Delta’s representative on many regional and provincial boards and committees. I can work effectively to bring forward Delta’s issues to other levels of government.

Delta deserves a clear vision, strong leadership, transparent government, and meaningful citizen involvement. I would be an advocate on the current challenges to Delta’s long-term livability as a community to reduce the impact of the mega projects that are underway in the community now.

I would execute fiscal management; my philosophy is living within our means and doing more with less. I will continue to adhere to the debt reduction policy, commence an annual budget review, and ensure that spending priorities are those as expressed by the taxpayer. I would cultivate a citizen-centred approach to meeting the needs of residents and businesses with emphasis on streamlining policies and processes at the municipal hall for efficiency and purpose.

While there are many challenges ahead there are also many economic opportunities for business prosperity. We must address of the Delta side of Scott Road in North Delta which is a stark contrast to its better developed Surrey side. Many business owners and residents have told me that they would like to see new and improved commercial areas. I would work with the business community to change the current situation.

The historical areas of North Delta have been greatly affected by the South Fraser Perimeter Road and have changed the character of this unique area. Consequently, changed traffic patterns will impact other neighbourhoods. As your mayor I would hold a town hall meeting with representatives from Gateway and seek to address all the issues brought forward by the residents.

Over the past few months I have been out in the community door knocking and have heard first hand from people about their concerns. Many people would like to see improvements to their neighbourhoods and traffic concerns addressed. I will work with the community and institute a neighbourhood renewal program.

Delta must embrace our growing seniors population and address the needs of housing and transportation. I would form a seniors advisory committee to the mayor which would be at the forefront for the mayor’s office.

Delta is my home. I have grown up here and have lived in all three parts of our community. I have a vision and plan for Delta’s long-term livability.

I ask for your support to continue to represent your views and find real solutions to preserve our unique community. My goal is to keep our community a desirable place for families and seniors to live and I will work with you to keep it that way. Elect Engelland for mayor on November 19.

Krista Engelland is the One Delta candidate for mayor.

Terrific candidate. Hope she wins. We are all tired of the current group of politicians "bought and paid for by developers" . The evidence of this appeared in a letter to the editor in the Delta Optimist Oct. 28.
Then there are the issues where Council is deaf and dumb to the citizens concerns. And with our part-time Mayor, we are not well served.

It's time for a change at the helm in Delta and my hope, and that of many others, is that Krista will be the change. She has run a 'grass roots' campaign and knows all three areas of Delta, hence the name One Delta.
