Andrew W.K. at the Rickshaw Theatre

If you only know Andrew W.K. from his party-hard singles (like, er, “Party Hard”), you don’t know Andrew W.K. The guy is a freak, one of those people who are seemingly excellent at everything they attempt. In addition to his high-profile career as a rocker, the man born Andrew Wilkes Krier is an accomplished pianist in both the classical and improv-jazz idioms. He recorded a jingle for Kit Kat commercials that were broadcast worldwide in 2004. He’s a night-club owner and a record producer. He hosts a game show on the Cartoon Network, Destroy Build Destroy, on which teenage contestants blow shit up real good. As a motivational guru, W.K. has given talks at Yale and New York University. He runs his own record label, plays bass with the legendary apocalyptic-folk band Current 93, and he created one of Japan’s best-selling ring tones in 2008. He also owns a landscaping company, is a chartered accountant, and once performed an emergency appendectomy on himself using only a Swiss Army knife and a roll of duct tape. Oh, and he’s currently dating your sister. Some of the above might not be true, but you can probably check with the man himself when he plays the Rickshaw Theatre on Sunday (November 26).
