Western Front’s annual Toque sale at 303 East 8th Avenue

Of all the artisan fairs happening this Christmas, the Western Front’s annual Toque sale just might be the most artful. The show this year runs Friday night (December 9) from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday (December 10) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the atmospheric hall at 303 East 8th Avenue. The pickings this year aren’t your average dough-cookie tree ornaments: check out Wendy Oakman’s intricate hand-done bookbinding; Henderson Dry Goods’ geometric, high-design wood jewellery; hand-felted slippers by Nellija Zi; and copious artistic cards, calendars, and other stationery. Also on hand are limited-edition commissioned tea towels by the artist collective Instant Coffee and exclusive Western Front publications. As extra enticement, there are cocktails on the Friday night and a kids’ craft table set up by Collage Collage on Saturday. At the same time you’ll be giving twice: the show is a fundraiser for the busy East Side artists’ centre.
