Vegan dessert night sprouts in New Westminster
New Westminster’s Coming Home Café (753 6th Street) will look very different on the night of January 21. The bistro usually serves all-day breakfast, pasta, and soups, but that evening the interior will be glammed up and vegan desserts will be the only food on the menu.
Ashley McLean of the vegan bakery Sprout and Melissa Balfour of Pretty Up Parties are planning the temporary metamorphosis for the Sinfully Divine Dessert Experience. The pair is billing the event as a pop-up restaurant.
Diners will each get a “personal dessert buffet” featuring black forest cake, tiramisu, cheesecakes, and other confections, all made by Sprout and free of animal products. Tea and fair-trade coffee will also be served.
Meanwhile, Balfour plans to transform the space by hanging fabrics and making changes to the furniture and lighting. Singer-songwriter Gina Lily will provide live music.
Two seatings are planned, at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $38, with 10 percent off for orders of four or more.
Later in the month, Pretty Up Parties is teaming up with Fairy Cakes to hold an event at Nice Shoes (3568 Fraser Street) in Vancouver.
On January 29, Tropics in January will see tropical-themed cupcakes on sale from Fairy Cakes, which plans to open a vegan cupcake shop next door.

Are the deserts sugar free? I know that's not vegan but being Diabetic that would be a requirement especially at $38.
Thanks,
