Veteran kicker Paul McCallum returns to B.C. Lions den

The B.C. Lions have re-signed 42-year-old placekicker/punter Paul McCallum, who seems to be getting better with age.

McCallum will return for a 20th Canadian Football League season and his ninth with the Lions. He was sensational for the football team last season setting CFL records for consecutive field goals made (30) and field goal percentage (94.3 percent). For his efforts, McCallum was rightfully named the CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Year.

As he was all season, McCallum was a huge part of the Lions success in their 34-23 victory over Winnipeg in November’s Grey Cup. He kicked four field goals, three converts, and added a punt single accounting for 16 of the Lions scoring points on the day.

“I’m excited to be staying with the Lions,” said McCallum in a team-issued media release. “Anytime you can play for your hometown club and finish the year the way we did last season with a Grey Cup win it’s something you just want to build on moving forward.”
