Young Artist Warriors Mural Project to be unveiled tomorrow

Artwork created by aboriginal youth from the Downtown Eastside will be showcased tomorrow in the Woodward’s Atrium. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., works created through the Young Artist Warriors Mural Project will be displayed, along with art available for purchase.

The project, lead by Jeska Slater, produced six large portraits of local First Nations youth aged four to 21, and were commissioned through the city’s Celebrate Vancouver 125 Mural Program in partnership with Britannia Community Services Centre.

In addition to the large portraits, other original works were created as well as 18 self-protraits. They will be installed near the Aboriginal Mothers’ Centre at 2026-28 Wall Street, and at a neighbourhood park.

Tomorrow’s event will also include a reception in the W2 Media Cafe at 7 p.m.
