3:01 Pick Me Up: CKY
Let’s face it: 3 p.m. is the cruellest time of the workday. The morning latte has worn off, and the post-lunch crash has you staggering around like an extra from a George A. Romero flick. That’s why, each weekday at 3:01 p.m., we present you with a video hand-picked to kick-start your heart. If the following clip doesn’t bring you temporarily back to life and help get you through the rest of the afternoon, chances are you’re dead inside.
After nearly slaughtering each other following a show in 2007, the members of CKY put down the murder weapons and gingerly drifted back together just long enough to put out the highly weird concept album Carver City in 2009. Lead single “A#1 Roller Rager” best embodied the M.O. on Carver City, in which a thousand guitar overdubs and the most leaden alternative-metal sound imaginable were fused to a lot of ‘80s-flavoured silliness—in this case, a flighty synth melody straight out of the kind of truly awful imported British sitcom your parents used to enjoy. Presumably, it was a little too inspired for most listeners, and “A#1 Roller Rager” became just another one of those feel-good hits of the summer that got away.
