Sportscast tracks Aida star's move from gridiron to opera stage
In our recent preview and review for Aida, we mentioned opera singer Morris Robinson—former U.S. college football star (as in two-time All American Offensive Linesman) and Citadel student.
Here’s a fun sportscast piece on the singer, plus a listen to his finely tuned instrument—the kind of bass that could fill, well, a football stadium. But first, another quote the affable Robinson gave to the Straight comparing his new art form to his old sport: “As an offence, you have to play in a controlled rage. It’s the same in opera: you can have the passion and the intensity, but you can’t sacrifice the voice.”
He sings at the Queen E in the Vancouver Opera production till May 3.
