Cinco De Mayo taco fiesta at LanaLou's
On May 5, 1862, some 8,000 French soldiers took on the 4,000-strong Mexican army and had their Chardonnay-sipping asses handed to them. The French came back a year later with more troops and soundly thrashed the Mexicans, installing some Austrian ponce as the country’s new emperor, but only a killjoy would let the actual facts of history stand in the way of a good party. What any of that has to do with punk rock in Vancouver is anyone’s guess, but the Bonitos and the Trespassers will nonetheless be celebrating Cinco de Mayo at LanaLou’s on Saturday (May 5) with a Mexican-themed party featuring live sets by both bands, plus tacos and margaritas. We recommend you saddle up a criollo and ride down dressed as Pancho Villa, complete with a pair of bandoliers, a 10-gallon sombrero, and a waxed handlebar mustache. Pancho Villa has fuck-all to do with Cinco de Mayo either, but at least he was Mexican, which is more than we can say for Billy Bonito.
