Birthday party at the Electric Owl
Electric Owl has become a conspicuous presence on the live scene since its grand opening last May. Co-owner Adam Levine reckons his “big, hungry baby” has prospered for a number of reasons, not the least of them being a heavy and very expensive reno upfront.
“I walked in there, I took out the posts in the centre in order for it to be a venue,” Levine explains in a call to the Straight. “We designed a room that would appeal to a variety of different entertainment formats and promoters.”
On that note, Levine added that Electric Owl is just “hitting its stride” as a destination with special appeal to the dance community. “That’s what for the next year people are really gonna get,” he says, adding that there’ll be “plenty of drink specials” at a birthday bash next Friday (May 25), featuring an early Active Child and Tycho show, followed by Electric Fridays with Schitz Popinov, Pat Lok, and Cyclist. “We just genuinely wanted to say, ‘Thank you, Vancouver, for keeping us here,’ ” he says.
