Straight sex survey: Angelina’s hot, Mick’s not

For the second consecutive year, Angelina Jolie has topped the Georgia Straight’s on-line sex survey as the top actor our readers want to have sex with. This year, Jolie placed well ahead of runner-up Johnny Depp.

Among male respondents, Jolie wasn’t that far ahead of Woody Allen’s favourite, Scarlett Johansson. But unlike Johansson, Jolie showed a remarkable sexual allure with women too. She ranked third among married and attached females as the actor they most want to bed.

Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera were considered the most desirable musicians, displacing last year’s male and female winners, Bono and Madonna. Mick Jagger was easily reelected as the most sexually detestable musician.

The survey was conducted anonymously on Straight.com, with more than 20,000 individual responses to questions. We don’t pretend that it’s scientific, because not every type of person will respond to a sex survey. But the sample size was large enough to deliver some intriguing data.

For instance, residents of wealthier areas, such as downtown or Vancouver’s West Side, appear to be having sex more often than people living on the East Side or south of the Fraser River. In addition, a lot more women than men want to go to bed with a person of the same sex. Men, on the other hand, are interested in group sex.

A significant number of men—32.9 percent—reported having sex outside of their regular relationship over the past year, compared with 20.9 percent of female respondents. Not surprisingly, men were far more likely than women to report that they had paid for sex.

A lot of people also appear to be having unprotected sex: 28.2 percent of males and 20.9 percent of females reported that they had had unprotected sex in the past year with a person who was not a regular sex partner.

Even though so many men and women stated that they had had sex outside their regular relationship, cheating was not the top reason why most couples break up. According to the survey, the primary cause of their last relationship breakdown was that the couple had grown apart.

We also asked people to provide preferences if they were to marry outside of their race or religion. Among men, 41 percent said they wanted to marry outside of their race, whereas only 35.5 percent of women responded this way. Older men and older women were more likely to express this desire.

It appears that Buddhism is Vancouver’s sexiest religion, judging by the number of people who said they would prefer to marry people of that faith over any other. The bulk of the results follow; for more reports from the bedroom, visit Straight.com.
