Lemonade at Electric Owl
Long gone are the good old days—i.e. 2001—when you could specialize in a single genre like garage, rawk, house, or punk. Nowadays, it’s all about fancy hybrids: Egyptian dubstep-grime, hardcore glitch-folk, and retro-prog-rap. And that no doubt suits the New York City–via–San Francisco men of Lemonade—at Electric Owl on Wednesday (June 13)—just fine. Listen to “Softkiss” off the band’s Bitchfork-blessed sophomore album, Diver, and you’ll hear what sounds like the best bits of New Order, George Michael, the Pet Shop Boys, and half of the bands in Williamsburg. You know—the soft-house electro acts with a thing for post-postrave soul.
