Bad news: people aren't coming out to see the Mikhailovsky's massive Swan Lake. Good news: Tickets can be had for half price.

Why is the Mikhailovsky Classical Ballet and Opera Theatre's Swan Lake not selling in Vancouver?

Whatever you blame, whether it's marketing, the time of year, high ticket prices, or the apathy of this city to classical ballet, the people who are going to suffer are the 150-plus artists who have come here all the way from St. Petersburg, Russia, for this polished production.

Some good news though: as far as ticket prices, word is today that they've just been made more affordable through Tickets Tonight, the downtown discount broker who sells them at half price on the day of performance.

Today they're on sale for $46.25 to $101.75. Not bad for a live orchestra and scores of fluttering swan dancers, not to mention a star Swan Queen.

No, the people who are going to suffer are the philistines in Vancouver. The Russians will just go to places where they care more about culture.
