      Moxie is probably correct, but I hope we resist the temptation of applying modern (hopefully more enlightened) standards to "our" ancestors. Often, ignorance is only obvious in retrospect.

      I think this is what Donald Rumsfeld was groping for when he did the whole "known unknowns" thing. :)

      The sticker campaign is useful in the sense that it gives us all a history lesson. But I sure hope that it doesn't result in a less-then-useful revisionist campaign to erase history. That would be counter-productive, especially for those who were at the pointy end of Trutch's bigotry.
