B.C. MLAs George Abbott, Mary McNeil and John Les have added their names to the list of Liberal caucus members that will not be seeking reelection next spring.

The departure of the three high-profile MLAs comes just a day after Kevin Falcon announced his resignation from cabinet and indicated he won't seek reelection.

Abbott, the education minister and MLA for Shuswap, said in a statement today (August 30) that the time has come for him to pursue “different opportunities and challenges.”

“This has truly been the experience of a lifetime for me,” he said.

McNeil, the minister of children and family development, said her decision came after “much discussion” with her family.

“It was not an easy one to make as I have very much enjoyed my time in public office,” she said in a statement.

Les, who is currently the parliamentary secretary to Premier Christy Clark, didn’t cite a specific reason for his departure in a statement posted on his website this morning.

Les has served three terms as the MLA for Chilliwack. He indicated he will stay on as MLA until next May.

The growing list of B.C. Liberal caucus members who have announced they won’t run again in the May 2013 election include Murray Coell, Harry Bloy, Bill Barisoff, Kevin Kreuger, Kash Heed, and Dave Hayer.

Lets not blame Christy....The Liberals were dead as a result of Gordon Campbell and his lying band of thieves. Personally I dont blame Christy one bit. As uninspiring this leader who was never voted in by the people is she couldn't have done anything to plug the holes.

Everyone keep an eye on where these guys end up. It was these MLAs that lied to you about the HST and tried every way possible to force it down your throat even after it was clear no one wanted it. They paid 1 million dollars in legal fees for Vasi and Birk, and sold all our assets to their friends.

With the Liberals bailing at break neck speed, it actually makes all those rats that tend to bolt from a sinking ship look like they're dilly dallying...
