Vancouver Fringe Fest review: Little Lady doesn’t have much to say

Solo artist Sandrine Lafond’s body is spectacularly articulate but in Little Lady it doesn’t have much to say. We watch Lafond’s titular clown character—who, the program tells us, is part human and part cockroach—go through several days. She wakes, gives herself a spray-bottle shower, watches TV—a knitting show one day, boxing another—flirts with audience members, eats, and sleeps. So what? Over the course of an hour, the mute Little Lady becomes increasingly human. When she dons enormous breasts and a big butt, she parodies commercial female sexuality. The joke is familiar, but some of the physical comedy is inventive and the show—briefly—has an intelligible reason for being.
