The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire @ 100

      Music on Main presents a cabaret show that celebrates Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunairea 100 years after its premiere. The Expressionist musical piece debuted on October 16, 1912, and consists of three groups of seven poems. The poems are from German poet Otto Erich Hartleben German translation of Albert Giraud’s French poems of the same name, and touch on topics including love, religion, violence, and home.

      The Music on Main program will consist of two sets. The first half will feature vocalist Carol Sawyer and pianist Lisa Cay Miller in cabaret songs and improvisation. The second set will consist of a performance of Pierrot Lunaire featuring soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen and the Music on Main All-Star Band conducted by Marguerite Witvoet.

      The all-ages event takes place at Western Front (303 East 8th Avenue) on Monday (October 15) starting at 8 p.m., with the show beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $35 and can be purchased online or by phone at 604-879-9888.
