3:01 Pick Me Up: Sisters of Mercy

Talk about a cheat. As every batcave-dwelling goth knows, the Floodland version of the epic Sisters of Mercy track “This Corrosion” doesn’t wrap up in a more-or-less radio-friendly four minutes and 16 seconds. If you want to hear the song as God intended it, you’ll have to settle in for an 11-minute haul. But, oh, what a glorious 11 minutes it is, with legendary producer Jim Steinman proving, once again, that there’s such thing as too much excess. Can you say 40-piece choir?

The video version cuts corners, but we’re not going to hold that against the Sisters main man Andrew Eldritch, mostly because he gives us plenty of what we want in the four-minute clip. And, by that, we mean Patricia Morrison. Has a more gorgeously gothic woman ever walked the face of Earth (but only after midnight). The short answer is—sorry Siouxsie Sioux and Amy Lee—no fucking way. Who says that scary can’t be sexy? Now, as we count down to Halloween, everyone sing together: “Gimmie the ring!!”
