The City of Vancouver and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 15 have ratified a four-year agreement covering 3,700 clerical, technical, and administrative employees.

The agreement, ratified today (November 7) by Vancouver city council, includes a 1.25 percent wage increase for 2012, a 1.75 percent increase in 2013 and 2014, and a two percent increase in 2015. The term of the new agreement is from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2015.

According to a news release issued by the City of Vancouver, the agreement also addresses long-standing issues regarding hiring and layoff processes, and gives the city increased flexibility to deliver services without incurring overtime costs.

CUPE Local 15 president Paul Faoro said in a statement on the union's website earlier today that members employed by the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Park Board, and the Ray-Cam and Britannia community centres had voted Tuesday to accept a tentative deal for a renewed collective agreement.

The negotiations for a new contract began in February. The previous agreement expired on December 31, 2011.

CUPE Local 15 provided Vision Vancouver with a $36,700 campaign contribution in 2011. The agreement would be far more palatable to residents who are facing tax hikes if CUPE Local 15 would refrain from donating money to political parties in the future. Otherwise the questions about conflict of interest in the decisions of the current ruling party at City Hall will continue to come up. Do the right thing CUPE and get big money out of politics.
