Douglas College closed All classes are cancelled today at the New Westminster campus of Douglas College after support workers who belong to the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union put up a picket line. More info is available here and here.

BCIT walkout planned Members of the BCIT Faculty and Staff Association are going to take their first job action in their dispute by walking off the job from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., which will shut down classes.

Transit fare hike TransLink will raise one-zone transit fares by 10 percent to $2.75 on January 1, 2013—the first increase since 2008—while two-zone fares will go from $3.75 to $4, and three-zone rides will increase from $5 to $5.50. Monthly FareCard passes will cost $10 to $19 more, depending on the number of zones they cover.

Police complaints disclosed The Office of the B.C. Police Complaint Commissioner has released its annual report, which reveals that nearly half of the 1,122 files opened against municipal police involved Vancouver officers, and 23 of the 44 resulting in internal discipline also dealt with Vancouver police. One concerned an officer who accidentally discharged his firearm in the men's locker room.
