New Westminster school district picks firm for elementary school project

A Port Moody firm has been selected by the New Westminster school district to handle the design-build duties for a new elementary school in the city.

Yellowridge Design Build was the top pick following a review of proposals from three teams, according to a statement posted on the school district’s website today (November 21).

Construction work on a new $13.5-million elementary school at the former St. Mary’s Hospital site is slated to start in March. It is to have room for 550 students in kindergarten to Grade 5.

The new elementary school is a key part of a plan in New Westminster that will also see construction of a new middle school and replacement of the city’s lone high school.

The public will have a chance to review the proposed design for the elementary school during a meeting at John Robson elementary on Thursday at 6 p.m. The contract with Yellowridge Design Build is expected to be signed sometime in December.
