Sarah McLachlan releases free Christmas song
Sarah McLachlan has taken a short break from perfecting her bliss (and making an album, due in 2013) to record and release a new Christmas song.
“Find Your Voice” was co-written and recorded with McLachlan’s frequent collaborator, Pierre Marchand. It’s available as a free download at McLachlan’s own website, although the Vancouver-based songstress is encouraging people to leave a donation for the Sarah McLachlan School of Music. Which you’ll want to do, of course, when you hear the very fine job some of those students did on the song’s background vocal and percussion work.
In a media release, McLachlan said, “Christmas is a difficult time for many both economically and emotionally and I hope this Gift of Music can help in some small way. My holiday wish is that we can all find the good in everyone and in every situation and be kind to each other. I wish you all a very happy, peaceful holiday filled with love, laughter and light!”
The video for “Find Your Voice” is being hosted exclusively by the CBC.

A few Christmases ago, I heard Sarah sing "Song for a Winter's Night", written by Gordon Lightfoot. The tears actually poured (and I'm a tough guy). Gordon's original version was good, but her cover was ... celestial. Even today, the opening bars cause me to choke up.
If you enjoy tears, I recommend her "Wintersong" Christmas album in general and "Winter's Night" in particular:
The lamp is burning low upon my table top,
The snow is softly falling.
The air is still in the silence of my room,
I hear your voice softly calling.
If I could only have you near,
To breathe a sigh or two,
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love,
On this winter night with you.
And on it goes to teardom.
talking about mind and mood manipulation.
Cheers!
