Game Innovation Database

By Dave Watson

There's no question that computer games have been one of the major driving forces behind the last couple of decades of computing, with programmers and hardware developers constantly challenging each other while gamers have provided the commercial impetus to keep everything going. But few people know that the first computer game was created in 1952. (Hey, I thought it was Spacewar! a decade later.) Sure, OXO was just ticktacktoe, but as the Game Innovation Database ( www.gameinnovation.org/ ) shows with its nifty Flash-based display system, it was the parent of many of the concepts (such as a display screen, sound, goals, avatars, and AI) that are still core elements of games today. This is the only site about games that's as much fun to explore as most games are to play.
