NEW RULES FOR GAMES
Just how good a job has the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games done in living up to all those commitments it made years ago to bolster our inner-city neighbourhoods? Well, let's just say there's ample room for improvement and still plenty to talk about. That's why the Impact on Community Coalition–a community-based organization aimed at ensuring the Olympics are run in the most healthy, sustainable way possible–is holding a public forum featuring a large roster of speakers: David Eby (Pivot Legal Society), Janice Abbott (Atira Women's Resource Society), Wendy Pederson (Carnegie Community Action Project), Rob VanWynsberghe (UBC), David Fields (Society Promoting Environmental Conservation), and Vanessa Richards (Public Dreams Society), all moderated by Am Johal (Civil Society Development Project). The forum takes place Tuesday (June 26), at 7 p.m. at the Vancouver Public Library's central branch (350 West Georgia Street). See www.olympicsforall.ca/ for details.

DOLLARS FOR DISCS
Early Music Vancouver, local guardian of the Renaissance and baroque periods' sonic heritage, puts on its annual summer fundraising sale on Friday and Saturday (June 22 and 23). Head down to the Granville Island Public Market (near the Blue Parrot Café), and you'll find scores of cheap CDs and DVDs–and not just classical stuff but jazz, folk, and world music too. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. For more information, call 604-732-1610.
