Kasbah Moroccan Bazaar and Café
With sprigs of fresh mint in the pot and fat dates on the side, the tea served by Abdel Elatouabi (ex BravoBistro) is the most authentically Moroccan this side of the Djemma el Fna. At his just-opened Kasbah Moroccan Bazaar and Café (2 Water Street, 604-722-5839) you can head in for early-morning kefta mkawra (meatballs and eggs in tomato sauce, $7.25). Later in the day, try meschoui—roasted lamb—on baguette, with spicy harissa and tomato-cuke salad ($7.25). Sunny days, hit the patio. Raining? Settle in to the cozy downstairs draped with Berber tent hangings. By the way, “Bazaar” means some décor is for sale. Open weekdays 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
