Emerson and Moore bucked party line

Five Lower Mainland Conservative MPs voted in favour of a December 7 motion to reopen the issue of same-sex marriage: John Cummins (Delta–Richmond East), Nina Grewal (Fleetwood–Port Kells), Russ Hiebert (South Surrey–White Rock–Cloverdale), Randy Kamp (Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge–Mission), and Mark Warawa (Langley). Two Lower Mainland Conservative MPs—David Emerson (Vancouver Kingsway) and James Moore (Port Moody–Westwood–Port Coquitlam)—voted against the motion, which was defeated in a 175-123 vote in Parliament.

All 11 Lower Mainland Liberal and NDP MPs also opposed the motion, which sought to revisit whether to restore the traditional definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
