Some of the Main Street 'hood's hippest indie stores left their East Side digs for the bright lights of downtown on June 15. The Crush Champagne Lounge was the setting for a fashion show that feted summer looks like Roman Holiday–styled sundresses, hip-length screened sleeveless Ts, Daisy Duke–worthy short-shorts, and more.
The stores in the spotlight at SP Event Management's Main Street Independent Stores Fashion Show were ARK (2549 Main Street), purveyors of print-emblazoned skirts, Asian track jackets, and old-school flight bags; Dadabase (183 East Broadway), whose in-house Government label specializes in irreverent graphics; Front & Co. (3772 Main Street), a consignment store that culls the cast-offs of serious fashion junkies; Lark 8th Ave. (152 8th Avenue), boasting recent shipments of labels like Beck(y), Boxup, and Naughty; and Skyler Clothing (4531 Main Street), whose self-named brand puts a fashion spin on yoga-inspired streetwear. The whole point was to raise the profile of the city's indie strip, but there was another good cause, too: partial proceeds from the show went to Little Mountain Neighbourhood House.
