Ten years old? Can it be? All we know is that since '96, the Salt Spring Coffee Company has gained loads of support for its emphasis on certified-organic, fair-trade, shade-grown beans. Now it's expanded to the mainland, launching its first Vancouver café last week at 4295 Main Street. All beans are roasted on Vancouver Island. All accompanying goodies, muffins, scones, cakes, cookies, and lunch-time soups and sandwiches are made in-house. Note that it opens early for java junkies, Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekends 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
