Rachel Rosenfield Lafo picked as new director of Richmond Art Gallery

The City of Richmond’s public art gallery has a new director whose resume boasts decades of curatorial and administrative experience at museums in the United States.  Rachel Rosenfield Lafo has been selected for the role, the gallery announced in a news release on February 12.

Lafo previously held the position to director of curatorial affairs deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Massachusetts. She has also been associate curator at the Portland Art Museum in Oregon. She moved to Vancouver in 2009.

Lafo has curated projects at the Surrey Art Gallery, Simon Fraser University Gallery, and the Seymour Art Gallery in North Vancouver. She is also president of the Contemporary Arts Society of Vancouver and has chaired the City of Vancouver’s public art committee.

Lafo holds a master’s degree in art history from the University of Massachusetts and has additional experience as an arts writer, lecturer, and public tour leader.

Looks interesting. If she has a strong art historical grounding she might put on some good shows. If she can avoid showing the sort of sh** put on by the VAG right now she might just be a great replacement for Kathleen Bartels.
