DRIFT or drive at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre

With her icy blond hair and skittish, muscular moves, Danish dance artist Kitt Johnson is a magnetic force on-stage. In her haunting, intimate DRIFT or drive, the X-act artistic director alternately whirls like a human tornado and kicks a coat—a symbol of civility—violently around the floor. She strips down, falls down, and thrusts around the floor in a solo performance that explores the push-pull between our instinctual drive and our controlled selves, the sexual and the repressed, or between biology and culture. And like so much at the Vancouver International Dance Festival, the show promises to be intense and unlike anything you’ve seen before, from Thursday to Saturday (March 7 to 9) at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre’s performance hall.
