Mis Hermanas at the Vancouver Playhouse

A flamenco fusion unlike anything you’ve ever seen, Rosario Ancer’s Mis Hermanas is a multimedia ode to her past that goes far beyond the castanets and stamping feet of the dance form. The Flamenco Rosario artistic director works in projections of old photographs as she traces her fascinating journey from the citrus groves of Mexico to the tablaos of Spain and finally to the rain-soaked streets of Vancouver. Ancer joins seven other dancer-choreographers in a tribute to her six sisters, with live accompaniment by her husband Victor Kolstee as well as—direct from Spain—guitarist Miguel Ramos and colourful cantaor Angelita la del Lito (whose wailing incantations nearly blew the roof off the theatre when this show premiered in 2008), along with percussion by Mexico’s Alvaro Rubio. The one-of-a-kind show returns to town on a tour of the province, hitting the Vancouver Playhouse on Saturday (April 6).
