Fun takes BLOOM at Mascall Dance

Put together wine-tasting, contemporary dance, and an audacious standup comic and what do you get? BLOOM, the one-of-a-kind menu of short dance excerpts put together by Mascall Dance each year in the West End. Here’s how it works: A sommelier selects a wine based on adjectives that each emerging choreographer chooses to describe his or her work. Audience members then sip those wines while they watch each five-minute dance. Then a standup comic gives his own wittily twisted interpretation of what everyone just saw. Also on hand this year: veteran dance artist Jennifer Mascall’s own Nijinsky Gibber Jazz Club with Billy Marchenski, Justine Chambers, and Darcy McMurray. The fun takes place at the Mascall Dance Studio (1130 Jervis Street) on May 7, 14, 21, and 28. The cash bar opens at 4:30 p.m., with the show starting at 5:15.
