Emily Carr University of Art + Design is awarding honorary doctorates to three high-profile figures in the arts and culture community.

The recipients are Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing, business leader and arts supporter Michael O’Brian, and curator and arts scholar Shengtian Zheng, the university announced today (May 2).

The university is also giving the 2013 Emily Award, which recognizes the accomplishments of alumni, to Jay Grandin and Leah Nelson of Giant Ant media studio.

The recipients are to be honoured as part of the university’s convocation ceremony on Saturday (May 4).
