For sheer, mind-blowing variety, head down to the grad exhibition at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, now dubbed, simply, The Show. In it, this year’s design, media, and visual-arts graduates seem to leave no material unused. We’re talking everything including camping tarps, horse skulls, embroidery, and rocking chairs, all reimagined and reconfigured into something contemporary and thought-provoking. (Check out the elaborate cutouts by Pierce Jordan, whose Intersecting Space is shown here.) We are also intrigued by all the mixing of media, especially the digital kind with older materials like watercolour and ink. Paintings, photography, and sculpture—they’re all there too; check them out before these folks set off into the world to become the next Doug Coupland or Jeff Wall. And note: guided tours are even available for the scores of pieces on view throughout the Granville Island landmark, till May 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
