Vancouver conductor Bramwell Tovey named to Order of Canada

      Vancouver conductor and composer Bramwell Tovey has been appointed to the Order of Canada.

      Tovey is an award-winning, internationally renowned musician who is currently music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic.

      Tovey received an honourary appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada for “his achievements as a conductor and composer, and for his commitment to promoting new Canadian music,” according to the Governor General’s website.

      He was among 74 appointments announced by Gov. Gen. David Johnston on June 28. Other recipients from the Vancouver arts scene include musician Robert Silverman, and poet Frederick James Wah.
