Seven Tyrants Theatre, the company that brought you last year’s scrappy, critically lauded Beggar’s Opera, is set to take on music history’s biggest rivalry.

From Wednesday (March 4) to March 14, it premieres Mozart & Salieri, David Newham’s creative adaptation of Alexander Pushkin’s classic text about the latter composer living in the shadow of Amadeus himself. Daniel Deorksen brings a new score to the work, inspired by the music of both composers and working with a cast of three on piano, violin, viola, cello, accordion, and voice.

Masae Day is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Cate Richardson is “the Player”, and Ottawa’s David Whiteley is Antonio Salieri.
