Have you noticed lately that familiar bite in the morning air? We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but that’s the first sign fall is right around the corner. In other words, it’s time to start making the most of those lazy, hazy last days of summer. One great way to get outdoors and get your culture fix at the same time is Viva Verdi!, the Opera and Arias series at Bard on the Beach in Vanier Park. Running this Monday (August 26) and next Monday (September 2) at 1 and 7 p.m. at the main-stage tent, the program features famed arias and ensemble pieces from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Falstaff, and more, performed by the UBC Opera Ensemble and members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. UBC’s Nancy Hermiston directs the in-concert staging and Leslie Dala conducts. Italian opera at sunset? Sounds pretty fine to us.
