Fringe Fest 2013: Dirk Darrow: NCSSI has some interesting tricks
The mind-reading/magic part of this show is better than the film noir parody in which it’s wrapped. Writer and solo performer Tim Motley plays a tough-talking private dick who’s investigating a murder. To figure out who did what, where, and when, he does a bunch of tricks using audience members. Some of these feats, including one that establishes the time of the crime, are impressive. But many of Motley’s jokes are goofily unfunny: “My God, someone mickeyed my drink. Damn that mouse!”
At the Waterfront Theatre. Remaining performances on September 8 (5:55 p.m.), 9 (5 p.m.), 11 (7:45 p.m.), 14 (9:35 p.m.), and 15 (1 p.m.).
