Fringe Fest 2013: David Cameron delivers a bravura performance in Underneath the Lintel
InUnderneath the Lintel, David Cameron delivers a bravura performance. When a library book is returned 113 years overdue, Cameron’s character, an aging Dutch librarian, embarks on an international quest to collect the fine and, in his own words, “to prove one life and justify another”. Cameron’s portrait is seamless—in the accent, physicality, timing, and emotional honesty. Unfortunately, for me, Glen Berger’s script is less rewarding. Its existential thematic content gets repetitive, and, lacking developed relationships, the text feels like an overly intellectual metaphor.
