Proud at the Firehall Arts Centre

They’re calling it an “election-year encore”: Proud, the comedy starring a character with an all-too-coincidental resemblance to Stephen Harper, is returning to the Firehall Arts Centre from Thursday (April 9) to April 25.

A hit when it played here last season, Michael Healey’s biting, cheeky, and fearlessly foul-mouthed play stars a stand-out cast that includes Andrew Wheeler and Emmelia Gordon (who took home a Jessie award last year for her performance) in a story that reimagines the outcome of the last federal election. The Tories have taken Quebec by storm, and the PM hopes to use one of its new MPs (Gordon) to his own political advantage, only to find the tables starting to turn.

Our reviewer called it “a really good time” with “lots of laughs”. And how often do you get to laugh at Canadian politics in the theatre these days?
