Stars Hofesh Shechter and Crystal Pite are on the roster of the just-announced DanceHouse season for 2015-16.

The Brit-based Hofesh Shechter Company, which wowed audiences here in 2009, kicks off the season on November 13 and 14 at the Vancouver Playhouse with barbarians, a trio of works that showcase his explosive, percussive style.

Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot teams up with the acclaimed theatre innovators at Electric Company for Betroffenheit on February 26 and 27, 2016, at the same venue. Its title the German word for shock and bewilderment, Pite’s collaboration with Jonathon Young takes audiences into the wake of a disaster. The dance-theatre work will premiere in July 2015 as part of the Panamania Arts and Culture Program of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

DanceHouse rounds out its three-show season with Brazil’s Companhia Urbana de Dança on April 1 and 2, 2016. The company mixes hip-hop, capoeira, and contemporary styles, earning a review from the New York Times that deemed its debut at the Joyce Theater there “so wonderful that it seems miraculous”. DanceHouse has built a strong relationship with Brazilian dance artists, including the performers in the Käfig Brasil show it’s presenting here this Friday and Saturday (April 10 and 11) at the Playhouse.

I had the great pleasure of seeing a workshop presentation of Betroffenheit, and am looking forward to seeing this presentation, even though we've to wait a year!
