Not to slight composers Linda Caitlin Smith, Linda Bouchard, and Jay Schwartz, but the big draw for Vancouver New Music’s upcoming Voices & Strings concert has got to be the unveiling of 2 cans and a string thing, a collaboration between singer Mary Margaret O’Hara (above) and cellist Peggy Lee.

Backed by a 21-piece chamber orchestra, the reclusive, Toronto-based vocal legend and the ubiquitous local cello star will presumably mix composition and improvisation as only they can in this world premiere, which takes place at the Orpheum Annex on Saturday (April 18).
